Donna: When did you know that you wanted to be an author?

Celia: I can remember the delight I had when I was six-years-old, when I wrote a story about a chick with a broken wing and her adventure returning to her parent’s nest high up in an oak tree. I still picture the cover I made, and recall the delight I had taking my little book home to show my mother. It was more than forty years before I rediscovered my love for writing stories, and experience the joy of holding a book I had created in my hand once more.

Donna: What inspired you to write this book?

Celia: I woke up one day in January 2017 with four very different characters in my head. These people wouldn’t go away. I saw them in a particular situation where all their lives had become enmeshed.

Four days later, they were still with me, and I felt compelled to tell the tale of how they came to be together. Fox Halt Farm was born.

My parents sold their dairy herd when I was four, and growing up, I witnessed many of the neighbouring farmers sell up too. My novel reflected my life, especially the bond I feel for Devon. I have worked in jobs as diverse as a chartered surveyor in London, to a climbing instructor and mountain leader in North Wales. I took my life experiences to create the sweeping saga inspired by the dream that wouldn’t go away. Culmfield Cuckoo takes the story into a new chapter.

Donna: If you could sum up Culmfield Cuckoo in one sentence what would it be?

Celia: Billy’s simple act of kindness, secrets and lies, all threaten everything she loves, but who is telling the truth?

Donna: What are you up to next?

Celia: I’m working on the final part of the trilogy, and seeking every opportunity to learn about improving my writing.

Donna: Who is your biggest inspiration?

Celia: I have two friends who both read early drafts of my debut novel and they have been wholly relentless with their support, encouragement and interest in my writing. The faith Tracey and Jenny have in me is my biggest inspiration.

Donna, it’s lovely to meet you, and thank you for having me here on your blog today (and for featuring my guest post last month too). My writing journey is leading to making so many new friends.
