Visions of Zarua Full Tour Banner

Two wizards, 350 years apart. Can they save the realm of Paltria from Zarua’s dark past?

An ancient darkness haunts the realm of Paltria.

Apprentice wizard Paddren is plagued by visions of a city on the brink of annihilation.

When his master dies in mysterious circumstances, the Royal Order of Wizards refuses to investigate.

Helped by his childhood friend, the skilled tracker Varnia, and her lover Leyoch, Paddren vows to find the killer.

The investigation leads Paddren down a sinister path of assassins, secret sects and creatures conjured by blood magic. But he is guided by a connection with a wizard from centuries ago – a wizard whose history holds the key to the horror at the heart of the abandoned city of Zarua. Can Paddren decipher his visions and save the Paltrian people before the dark menace of Zarua’s past is unleashed?

I had read really good reviews of this book and jumped at the chance to be able to listen to the audiobook!

I thought that this was a well written and well developed fantasy story with an added element of mystery and it really had me hooked right from the start.  I thought that the plot was really well developed, I liked how it was split to tell the story too.

The characters were well developed too and I loved hearing how they developed – the excellent reviews I had seem about the book were certainly right!

It is 4.5 stars from me for this one, rounded up to 5 stars for Audible – I thought that the plot was great and the narrator did a great job with bringing the story to life too – I do love a good audiobook that can help me escape and this was definitely one of them!

I also wanted to share with you an interview I had previously with the author!

  1. When did you know that you wanted to be an author?

I knew I would be an author from a very early age. I remember the teacher reading us a story and stopping at a really exciting point before telling us towrite what happens next. That moment was magical and I still remember something of that childish excitement now.

Soon after that I planned a whole series of children’s books about a young girl and her pet lion. Unfortunately, I didn’t get past the planning stage

  1. What inspired you to write this book?

My character, Varnia actually started me writing Visions of Zarua. She arrived one day and demanded to have her story told. I had other ideas floating around and they sort of merged to form this story.

I drew on my love of nature and mystery, and I wrote a story I would want to read with hints of romance, heroic sacrifice and one of my favourite elements – assassins.

I don’t know many people who read fantasy so I wanted to write something anyone could enjoy, be they hard-core fantasy lovers or readers of other genres. Many of the reviews posted about Visions has proved I managed to achieve that.

  1. If you could sell this book in one sentence what would it be?

Fantasy meets mystery in a story that transcends time and earthly realms.

  1. What are you up to next?

I am finishing the final book in my heroic fantasy trilogy, Silent Sea Chronicles and also working on the prequel. I hope to publish both books in 2019.

  1. Who is your biggest inspiration?

From the writing world, my biggest inspiration has always been David Gemmell. I loved his fantasy books and his style of heroic fantasy is something I always keep in mind as I write. He had a way to make you care about every character in the story, no matter how briefly they appeared on the page.

Closer to home I feel inspired by my children. Their arrival made me realise that I had to fulfil my dream of publishing books and being a stay at home mum gave me the opportunity to do that. Now I want to show them that anything is possible if you work hard enough. I want them to be proud, and of course I want them to enjoy my books as well!

My son has read everything so far and says I’m one of his favourite authors, while my daughter wants to read my books when she gets a bit older. If her reaction to my cooking is anything to go by, I think she will be a much harsher critic!

I’m also inspired to write because I don’t want to get a proper job, this is my dream and I never want it to end. If it wasn’t for my husband supporting me, I couldn’t do this. He goes out to work doing a physical job that hurts him so I can follow my dream. I guess that qualifies him as the biggest inspiration in my life. One day I’ll buy him that house by the river and he can retire and follow his own dream of catching monster fish!

author photo 2018 (2)Suzanne lives in Middlesex, England with her hugely encouraging husband and two children.

She wrote her first novel at the age of twelve. She discovered the fantasy genre in her late teens and has never looked back. Giving up work to raise a family gave her the impetus to take her attempts at novel writing beyond the first draft, and she is lucky enough to have a husband who supports her dream – even if he does occasionally hint that she might think about getting a proper job one day.

Suzanne loves gardening and has a Hebe (shrub) fetish. She enjoys cooking with ingredients from the garden, and regularly feeds unsuspecting guests vegetable-based cakes.

She collects books, loves going for walks and picnics with the children and sharing with them her love of nature and photography.

Suzanne is interested in history and enjoys wandering around castles. But most of all she likes to escape with a great film, or soak in a hot bubble bath with an ice cream and a book.
