Detective Hanlon is addicted to violence. She likes the rush, the danger, the losing control…
When Hanlon is suspended from the force for assaulting a suspect, she escapes to the remote Scottish island of Jura, home to the mysterious Corryvreckan whirlpool.
But wherever Hanlon goes, violence is sure to follow.
As soon as she checks into The Mackinnon Arms, Hanlon senses something isn’t quite right about the staff at her home for the week.
Sure enough, within days of arriving, the body of a member of staff is found floating in the sea. While police believe she was claimed by the local whirlpool, Hanlon isn’t so sure.
As she pieces together the evidence, dark secrets begin to unravel. Can Hanlon work out what is going on before another floating body is found…?
The start of a gripping new crime series, perfect for fans of Angela Marsons, Robert Bryndza and Lisa Regan.
MY REVIEW
I was really intrigued by the blurb for this book and I just love that cover!
I actually went through the Corryvreckan whirlpool many years ago on a trip to the Highlands and Islands of Scotland so that immediately grabbed my interest and attention – I do love reading a book that is set somewhere I know, or have visited as it helps me bring the book to life even more. This setting and location is key to the book and works so well.
I thought that the plot was well developed and there was plenty happening. The author built up intrigue with the book.
The characters were well developed and I really liked getting to know Hanlon and would love to find out more about their backstory and what made them tick. The pace was good and I found it to be an easy read and it was an excellent start to a promising new series – can’t wait for the next book!
It is 4 stars from me for this one, I thought that it was a well-developed story and I will definitely be looking out for more books from the author in the future!
