#BookReview for Signs in the Well by Shoham Smith @penswordbooks #SignsintheWell

Akiva was good at his job, and content with his life. But he came from a poor family and had never learnt to read. One day he decided to change this.

This is the inspirational story of Rabbi Akiva, who was the embodiment of what he taught, that ‘it’s never too late to learn’. He went on a personal journey, from a poor goat-herd to a leading rabbinic scholar, thanks to his drive for learning and self-improvement.

A beautiful recreation of the life lessons of a key Jewish figure, Signs in the Well creatively teaches the importance of a thirst for knowledge. Akiva refuses to just accept his fate and this leads him to being one of the most respected Jewish teachers of all time.

Shoham Smith’s elegant prose and Vali Mintzi’s striking illustrations illuminate this beautiful tale and bring Rabbi Akiva to life for 4-8 year olds.

MY REVIEW

This was a really positive story!

The book tells you that it is never too late to learn and if you put your mind to it you can learn a new skill at any age – I couldn’t agree more.  The story was well told and the images really suited the story.

I love learning new things every day and hope that it encourages children and adults to do the same.  I am lucky that my daughter loves reading with me, exploring and she wants to learn all the time, I will always encourage her and hope it stays that way.

I do love a good positive story and the ending for this is great – 4 stars from me, highly recommended!
